Blocked Fallopian Tube

Our names were put on the waiting list for IVF and an operation was scheduled for me to have further investigations carried out with the possibility of removal of my right tube.

My husband and I got married almost four years ago and we were so excited about having a family.  All our friends were well ahead of us and it was something that we assumed would just happen straight away for us as well.

However, after a year and a half of trying by ourselves I went to my GP who referred us both to the fertility clinic.  There was another long wait before they finally saw us and carried out a number of tests on both myself and my husband.

It was on my birthday last year when they gave me the news that I had been dreading!  The consultant informed me that he could see from the scans that I had a blockage in my right fallopian tube that was 8cm in diameter.  He advised me that it was most likely caused by adhesions from an operation to remove a burst appendix 12 years previous.  He informed me that if I had got pregnant that the contents of the blockage may have been leaking into my womb making it an inhospitable environment for a baby to survive.  Our names were put on the waiting list for IVF and an operation was scheduled for me to have further investigations carried out with the possibility of removal of my right tube.

Devastated by this news and the prospect that I might never be a mother, I sought the comfort of close friends.  It was at this point when I heard about Maria Rafferty, from a friend who had heard about her from someone else.

I made an appointment via the telephone.  My first impression of Maria was that she cared deeply about women in my position.  While I admittedly didn’t understand what she would be doing; I felt listened to and understood for the first time in this process, and felt safe, cared for and nurtured.

Maria gave me tips and advice over the phone before I arrived for my first appointment, I followed through on this advice; although I was busy with work I carried out her instructions as much as possible.
I felt totally safe in her hands and confident in her abilities as she kept me informed during the entire process of what she was doing and the reasoning behind it. Then came my first visit, it was over 2 hours long.  I felt a bit nervous but Maria put me at ease and carried out a comprehensive health history, Mayan massage as well as acupuncture.  I felt totally safe in her hands and confident in her abilities as she kept me informed during the entire process of what she was doing and the reasoning behind it.

After my first treatment I continued with the self care she had taught me at least 4-5 times a week.  I felt it was as important that I took as much control and responsibility in the process as possible if I was going to make things happen!

By the time my period came after my first massage, it was different than normal.  I was normally a heavy bleeder with a lot of pain and discomfort; however, while I was fatigued, my period was very light and extremely watery.  I found this to be very odd, and innately knew that something had shifted!

I went back to Maria who checked in with me to see how I had been doing and she recorded any changes over the weeks.  This reassured me that she was keeping a tight eye on things for me and tracking my progress.

I again felt relaxed and in safe hands during the treatment and she was able to inform me about scarring that I had on my right hip as well, that had been causing me a lot of pain – but I had previously put this down to a lot of driving.  However, after I used the castor oil on my hip as well as my stomach area, it eased considerably.

I continued to carry out self care after this session and waited for my next period to come as I was interested to see what changes in my body I would experience.  However, I waited and waited and my period did not come.  I noticed a lot of tenderness in my breasts although this was usually a sign that my period was due and I did not pay much attention to it.  I waited another week, before I finally took up the courage to buy a pregnancy test (as I had done so many before that were negative).  However, this time it was POSITIVE!
I was in shock and took 4 more tests before telling my husband that we were finally pregnant!! I was in shock and took 4 more tests before telling my husband that we were finally pregnant!!  After my first scan at the Royal, they informed me that everything is going well and that my blockage in my right fallopian tube has shrunk to just millimetres in diameter.  I did not have to attend for my operation and have been discharged from the fertility clinic.

I am due on the 24th March 2013, just days after my next birthday…..what a great birthday it will be and thank you Maria for helping to give me the best present EVER!
